Liberals and invisible homophobia - The Advocate got it right

James Kirchick, over at Advocate.com, has an insightful commentary regarding the homophobia of liberals. Gay liberals are always left with the scraps from the liberal table, requiring them to vote for the lesser of two - or more - evils. In this case, Kirchick highlights the homophobic speech of Bill Richardson and the awful legislation that President Bill Clinton passed while in office (Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell; the so-called Defense of Marriage Act; and a bill to prevent HIV-positive people from entering the country). I actually like President Clinton, but have never shied away from being critical of him for turning his back on gay people by officially legislating against us. To me, voting for him was the only viable option at the time.

This woman thought only the “true believers” were listening: damn, was she ever wrong! I guess she’s never heard of the the Internet? 
This homosexual’s agenda - and, by the way, I prefer gay or, better yet, fabulous agenda - is to: clean my house today, run errands, find a husband, blog a bit, finish my dissertation, enjoy my Saturday, and lavish loving attention on my cats, Bunny and Linus.
Straight men kissing each other or Dude: I kissed a guy and I liked it

So, it seems it is becoming fashionable for non-gay (straight) guys to kiss each other and it’s about bloody time! Straight guys are also finally admitting (in no small numbers) that they have “man crushes” on other guys, usually a sports star of some sort. Gods forbid those crushes should be misinterpreted as real love for another guy, ’cause that might end up in, you know, GAY sex!
Men kissing men and declaring school-boy crushes on another guy. Next thing you know, they’ll be demanding equal rights and the right to marry each other. Oh, wait - gay guys have been agitating for equal human rights for decades. Hell, we’ve also been kissing men and declaring school-boy crushes on other guys.
So, just remember, straight guys, we were there, doing it all along - first. Ask us some questions or let us teach you.
Another gay teenager shot in cold blood
Joe. My. God. has written an excellent story about Lawrence King, the teenager shot down in Oxnard, California.
Excerpt: “A total of over 1000 people gathered at two locations on Friday and Saturday in Oxnard, California to honor the memory of Lawrence King, 15, an openly gay middle-school student who was shot in the head last Tuesday by Brandon McInerney, a 14 year-old fellow 8th grader. New reports suggest that days before the shooting King may have told McInerney that he had a crush on him.”
How sad that this courageous gay teen has his life terminated by another kid, perhaps because he was told by the boy that he had a crush on him? I don’t get it: homophobes believe these complimentary and validating statements are permission to kill? Whatever happened to “Thou shalt not kill”? Oh, yeah, that’s right: this value is conveniently ignored when soldiers go to war - or when the guy you are mad at or afraid of is gay.
