Federal Judge Vaughn Walker today issued a final ruling from the bench of the United States Northern District Court of California that Proposition H8 violated both the Due Process and Equal Protection Clauses of the American Constitution and declared it unconstitutional.
California has adopted strict controls for carbon generation and putting into place America’s first legally mandated cap-and-trade regulations. The plan is expected to dramatically reduce carbon pollution and to generate hundreds of thousands of new jobs.
I like to envision a world where humans can live in wilderness or deep natural settings, in harmony with and in protection of nature; ideally, the rejuvenation and renewal of the biosphere. Having said that, sociologists and futurists appear to agree that most humans will live in large urban centers to pool resources and live more efficiently. Our challenge is to foster nature as an integral part of our cities, more vigorously than we have done in our past.
