The Rise of the Second Stonewall Movement - Stonewall 2.0

If you are a new visitor - welcome! - you may want to subscribe to our RSS feed. Thanks so much for visiting Jimboland Jots - the world from a freethinker, gay, green, radical, and American progressive worldview.
It is hard to be the one who is purposefully left out, to be excluded, to feel “less than” others, and relegated to some second tier of human citizenship. Americans get righteously - and rightly - upset about such things and lesbian and gay Americans - and our many and diverse friends - are very pissed off. We are getting angrier and rising up against seemingly endless waves of anti-gay marriage rights and anti-gay parent adoption laws in California, Florida, Arizona, and elsewhere in our fair country. Gay people have had it with such legalized and accepted bigotry.
The Gay Agenda is Equality - Nothing More and Nothing Less
There it is, in all its glory: the new President-elect Obama’s and Vice President-elect Biden’s agenda for implementing civil rights at change.gov. Here are the salient points relevant to us gay folks:
- Expand Hate Crimes Statutes
- Fight Workplace Discrimination
- Support Full Civil Unions and Federal Rights for LGBT Couples
- Oppose a Constitutional Ban on Same-Sex Marriage
- Repeal Don’t Ask-Don’t Tell
- Expand Adoption Rights
- Promote AIDS Prevention
- Empower Women to Prevent HIV/AIDS
Wanda Sykes’s Stirring Call for Equal Civil Rights Across the USA
Speaking to a protest crowd in Southern California, Wanda shares that she is gay, proud, married with her wife in the crowd, and pissed off at the wave of anti-gay civil marriage rights and anti-adoption laws by gay parents.
She said the some thing at the True Colors concert at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley in June. Loved her then, love her now. A stirring call for democratically guaranteed equal civil rights for gay people across America, for equality for all.
Prop 8 momentum could lead to local change
Andy Thayer has been working to secure marriage rights for gay couples in Chicago for more than 10 years.
But Thayer, one of the co-founders of the Gay Liberation Network, a local gay and lesbian action group, predicts equal rights will become a major issue in Illinois as more local voices join the fight spurred by the passage of Proposition 8 in California. The vote seems like a setback for the gay marriage movement, Thayer said, but the nationwide backlash is an opportunity to build momentum for local discussions on equality.

Here are awesome photos and video of Saturday’s massive San Francisco protest for the civil right of gay people to marriage equality on 15 November 2008, part of 300 protest actions across the USA in what is being widely hailed as the 2nd Stonewall Movement.
