A Tighty Whitie Carwash and a Rocketdog Rescue Fundraiser at Cafe Flore
Living in San Francisco is tremendously fun and living in the Castro is a daily celebration of life and of gay men. This past Sunday, I was hanging out with my friend, Paul, the blonde “horny ‘hustler’” from “The Hunky Daddy, The Horny Hustler, and The Jealous Husband“. On our way over to Cafe Flore for the Rocketdog Rescue fundraiser put on by the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence (Inc), we heard great dance music and followed the tapped public water hydrant to a carwash put on by the guys from the Bare Chest Calendar! They were wearing next to nothing - thank goodness! - and the nothing they were wearing was tighty whities!
Since Sunday was Cafe Flore’s Rocketdog Rescue fundraiser, that was where we spent a few hours of comfort and joy! Kathleen was my late and beloved friend and was proclaimed “St. Kathleen, Guardian of Furry Friends”, by the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. A sainthood proclamation by the Sisters is a high honor and is given to those members of the gay (broadest definition here) community that have significantly contributed to the quality of life of our community. Kathleen was a wonder woman in every way, notably with nurturing and healing rescue dogs, and she died tragically earlier in 2008.
My deepest gratitude to the Sisters, especially to Novice Guard Sinthetic Soul and Sister Dinah Might, for making Kathleen’s sainthood proclamation happen. I know she would have been honored and quite happy with this special designation by our beloved Sisters!
The Cafe Flore fundraiser was lively, with folks bringing their little and big doggies. It was a delight to meet the pet humans and the sweet doggies. Everyone was friendly and it was great to see so many people - gay and non-gay - hanging out with our larger families of human and canine people.
