Straighten Up America is a great program put together by the Congress of Chiropractic State Associations and Life University and is part of a world-wide Straighten Up initiative. The salient points for spinal health are relevant to all of us, but these exercises are intended to be a part of healthy, active living; are designed for healthy children and adults to practice daily, like brushing one’s teeth; and it is advised that one consult with a healthcare provider before beginning any exercise regimen. With as minimal an investment as 5 minutes daily, one can improve one’s spinal - and general - health.
Straighten Up lifestyle choices are instructive and, from the Straighten Up Australia slide presentation, they are exceptionally useful:
- Choose to improve your life
- Choose to enjoy healthy and invigorating activity for at least 30 minutes daily
- Choose to live tobacco-free
- Choose healthy foods
- Choose good posture while sitting, standing, or lifting
- Choose a balanced supportive bag or backpack
- Choose a comfortably supportive mattress
- Choose to create quiet in your life
- Choose to serve others
- Choose to be kind to your spine
It can be immediately observed how much personal choice matters in creating a healthier lifestyle. So, let us choose health and life, as a matter of wellness for the self, for others, and for the planet.
